The Story Behind the Yarn
Symfonie Yarns is a proud division of KnitPro International, a family-owned leader in the manufacture of fine needlecraft tools and accessories, with roots in Jaipur and Delhi India. Our yarn journey began, some years back, with KnitPro’s group of in-house dedicated knitters and crocheters who dreamt of creating the Ideal Premium Yarn. With management support, the Yarn Team, as they came to be known, embarked on a true labor of love.
First, KnitPro built an on-premises dye studio to insure consistency of supervision for the hand-dyeing of each skein and a safe working environment. Working side by side and learning from expert hand-dye masters, the team collaborated and developed an initial collection of more than 80 unique semi-solid and variegated shades of color. Inspiration was to be found everywhere – from the lush surroundings of the verdant country side to the magnificence of the palaces and shrines that glow with light during the celebrations and events that mark life.
Next, they patiently sought and sourced the superior wool, silk and materials that would work together to complement the chosen color palette. In order for it to qualify as a superior knit and crochet yarn, they knew it needed to be a soft yarn as well as one that could withstand the test of time and wear. A steadfast commitment to value and the use of safe materials and responsible manufacturing practices were part of the mandate for the new machine-washable skein of yarn, so yarns with the Oek-Tex-100 certification were chosen.
The outcome of all this hard work resulted in a group of 4 distinct lines of yarn, in 3 different weights: Pure 100% dk merino, renowned for its softness, warmth and receptivity to dye, was selected as the core yarn for the dk weight, Viva. A luscious fingering and sock yarn, Terra, was spun with Merino, and fortified with 25% polyamide yarn, resulting in the best sock and lightweight yarn. The lovely dk weight Luna was the brilliant outcome when silk and merino yarn were blended, and, finally, Bella, a soft and cozy worsted weight yarn joined the line up to complete our dream of a collection.
